SUMMARY:Webinar - What Your Memory Test Score Actually Measures
DESCRIPTION: What Your Memory Test Score Actually Measures\, Webinar Watch Party (pre-recorded webinar)\n\nFriday\, August 21 | 11am – 12pm  | Holz Pavilion Theater\n\n\nDr. Ziad Nasreddine built the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)\, the 10-minute cognitive screen your doctor most likely uses. He explains how memory is measured\, why a score can be shaped by your education and how comfortable you are with tests\, and what separates a quick screen from a full neuropsychological evaluation. A memory test is not a verdict. Its value is in early\, honest information\, and what you can do once you have it. \n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:What Blood Tests Could Mean for Early Alzheimer’s Detection — Pre-recorded Webinar
DESCRIPTION:What Blood Tests Could Mean for Early Alzheimer’s Detection \nWednesday\, September 2 | 10am – 11am | Holz Pavilion Theater \nBlood tests and other biomarkers are bringing researchers closer to detecting Alzheimer’s disease before memory loss begins — a shift that could reshape prevention\, treatment\, and the way families think about risk. Dr. Joshua Grill\, director of the UC Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) and UCI’s NIA-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center\, explains how advances in amyloid PET scans\, spinal fluid testing\, and blood-based biomarkers are changing Alzheimer’s research and care. He also discusses why these tests are useful today for people already experiencing cognitive symptoms\, why they are not yet recommended as a routine risk test for people without memory problems\, and how biomarkers are helping researchers design prevention trials for people at higher biological risk. He also explained the emotional\, ethical\, and legal questions that come with assessing Alzheimer’s risk and what still needs to happen before early testing and treatment become part of routine care. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:New Insights on Cognitive Training and Dementia Risk — Pre-recorded Webinar
DESCRIPTION:New Insights on Cognitive Training and Dementia Risk \nTuesday\, September 15 | 11am – 12pm | Holz Pavilion Theater \nIn this BrainMatters webinar\, Dr. George Rebok\, Professor Emeritus with the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health\, discusses new insights on cognitive training and dementia risk reduction gleaned from recently published research on the 20-year follow-up of the ACTIVE Study. This clinical trial reported that computerized cognitive training (similar to a computer game) designed to adapt to the user’s level and split their attention may reduce the risk of dementia up to 20 years later.  This study was completed using BrainHQ\, a program we will soon be offering our residents. \nQuestions?
