Handmade from the Heart of Three Pillars' Residents

Resident Group Donates 1,002 Knit and Crocheted Items to Local Nonprofit Organizations

December 7, 2021

The resident-organized Crocheting & Knitting Group at Three Pillars has kept very busy this year creating hats, mittens, scarves, and other winter apparel all year round. During the cozy winter months, the sweltering days of summer, and the weeks in between, they kept knitting and crocheting.

Why? So they could spread warmth to those in need during the holiday season!

Warmth and love (in the form of knit and crocheted hats, mittens, scarves, and more) was organized and ready to be delived to local nonprofits.

14 resident volunteers came together in 2021 to help create 1,002 items that they donated to local nonprofit organizations this month. This year’s special drop-off day included stops at the Women's Shelter, Hope Center, Hebron House, Oconomowoc Lake Area Free Clinic, and Oconomowoc and KM Food Pantries.

The resident volunteer group, established in 2006, quickly became a hit with the community and the tradition has continued since. Organizations and recipients of the knitted goods are grateful for the generous donations and eagerly await the drop-off each year.

Maryanne Wells, a member of the Crocheting & Knitting Group, commented,

“I like to add a little color and warmth to the lives of the people who receive the donations.”

If you’re interested in supporting their work, donations of yarn are gladly accepted year-round to any main Three Pillars entrance. While they’re grateful for any donation, the group prefers skeins of enough color to make a complete item in a 4-ply knitted worsted style.
